Art, English and Sport with Crown and Manor
On Thursday 23 February, the College welcomed seven boys and two members of staff from the Crown and Manor Club, Hoxton, for a day of academic and sporting activity.
The day began with ex-professional player, and Winchester's Head of Football, Jason Dodd, running the pupils through some football and cricket drills.
They then moved on to the Treasury museum for an informative tour from Treasury Manager, Suzanne Ceiriog-Hughes and the opportunity to handle the artefacts, which prompted a range of interesting ideas and good questions.
Surmaster James Hodgins talked to the boys about the historic connections between the Club and Winchester College, and explained what life at a boarding school is like. The groups discussed the differences and similarities between the College and where they go to school.
Lunch was in the medieval heart of the school, and where Collegemen have eaten for over 600 years, followed by a tour of the historic architecture with Head of History of Art, Adam Rattray.
The final part of the day was a joint English and Art project, where the boys reflected on the poem presented to them by Head of Learning Support Christian Schofield, and then produced art work in response, guided by the Head of Art, Michael Bruzon.
This was the first of a programme of visits to the College by club members, and we look forward to seeing them again in May.
